Farm House
In late 2014 we bought a farm house on ten acres. It was known as "The Bartholomew Ranch" around town, named after the original owners, but an old newspaper article referenced the property as "Cloverdale." It wasn't clear why until the family discovered their grandfather was born in Cloverdale, Kansas. We love history.The house was 1300 sq ft and built in 1902. There were two bedrooms upstairs and one bathroom downstairs which couldn't have made an easy job of getting to the bathroom in the middle of the night. The stairs were were narrow, steep, and definitely not to code, so you risked injury should you fall, a definite negative. The property itself was idyllic though. Only five miles outside of town with a pond, a historic white barn and the most beautiful old cottonwood tree you ever did see. It was clear to us that if our family of six wanted to live here, we'd need to add on. We would buy it, gut it, and expand the house to 2000 sq ft with two extra bedrooms...and live in it forever.Ha. Ha. Haaaaaaaa.I’ve moved 12 times in 12 years of marriage and should have known better. What actually happened was we lived it in for one year, absolutely loved it, then sold it to awesome people, and moved onto the next thing.

KITCHEN
The kitchen was roughly 8 x 11 when we bought it, so we bumped it out to 16 x 12 which was big enough to add a small island. It was important to me to have open shelving, cream cabinets and white subway tile. I wanted it bright and light and very farmy. We added black hardware for some contrast, had the hood on the range custom made and painted to look like it was a metallic blackish brown metal. I dressed up the deco above the range by using gorgeous soft black and cream tiles from Tabarka Studio. We went ahead and made the decision to put the dining room table right in the middle of the kitchen to save space for an office and book shelf area in what was formally the dining room. We chose benches instead of chairs to save on space. Since the kitchen was mostly white, I hung a huge red floral print for color and personality.

MASTER
The master bedroom was an addition and we ended up with quite a large suite. White shiplap and beam work completed the farm look. An ocean blue Restoration Hardware floor rug was the first thing bought and I picked the rest of the furniture and color palate around it.
LIVING ROOM
When we bought the house, the living area was in a hole of a room with one entry point and three walls surrounding it. We kept the fireplace in the middle of the room but opened up the wall on the other side of it so there were two entry points so you could walk around and through the space, which made it more open and light. There is a small white brick fireplace that cannot be seen but is located to the immediate left of where this picture is being taken. We replaced the solid wood door to the left that led to the deck with a glass one to let more outside light in the space.
PANTRY
This house had a tiny room off the kitchen that presumably had been used as an office (although we later learned the original owners used it as a master bedroom back in the early and mid 1900's!) Being a cook, I took one look and knew I wanted it to become a luxurious, super sized pantry. For this room we chose a sliding glass barn door and porcelain tea plate wall paper which is just gorgeous in person. We added a second refrigerator, built shelves for food items on one side, and then cabinets and closed shelving on the other side for wine glasses and china plus a countertop for storing wine bottles, panini presses and other commonly used kitchen items.

There was no previous landscaping around the house except for the trees and huge clumps of chives I was delighted to find out front. We decided to pour a patio off the side of the entry. There is a fire pit attached as well.The Barn
